Pre-entry Visits

Firstly, welcome to the Arahoe School community!
We hope you find this information of use and trust any queries are answered.

Why
Pre entry visits are a valuable way of introducing school life to your child. Your child will become familiar with their teacher, other children in the class and the location of facilities.

When
Four weeks before your child turns 5, the first two weeks on a Friday afternoon from 2.00 until 3.00pm and the following two weeks on a morning from 9.00 - 10.30 am on a day mutually convenient to both you and the teacher. You do need to arrive promptly.

Where
Our New Entrant block consists of three classrooms, rooms 18, 19 and 20. Please refer to the school map for their location.

What Happens
Children are encouraged to participate in all classroom activities which could include anything from singing, listening to stories, PE, art or developmental type work.

What do we expect of the children
We like children to feel comfortable enough to join in on all the activities but realise that this could take a little more time for some children. We would like them to go away thinking
‘school is great’.

How you can help your child settle in
For the first two visits you may wish to stay for the whole session but it is helpful to children if you can leave them for the last 2 sessions. This helps them adjust to being at school by themselves.
It is great to get as many adults as possible joining in with the children in all activities.
We hope that you go away thinking
‘school is great’ too!
