Every year, six local schools form a massed choir and perform in the Bay Schools Festival.
These schools include Arahoe Primary, Blockhouse Bay Primary, Blockhouse Bay Intermediate, Chaucer Primary, New Lynn Primary and St. Dominics (Full Primary) however this year, sadly St Dominics are unable to participate and we welcome back Glen Avon School for our 2014 Festival.
The Festival is a great celebration of music performed by an enthusiastic group of children representing their schools, involved in singing, dancing, and playing instruments.
Mrs Michelle Sadgrove has conducted the Bay Schools Festival Choir since 2002 having a study break in 2007 to resume back as co-conductor with Tamsyn Chan from BBI and Kath Pithams from BBPrimary in 2008. From 2010-2012 a new conductor, Melody Casse from Blockhouse Bay Primary co-conducted with Mrs. Sadgrove. Last year (2013) Mrs Sadgrove went back to being sole conductor and will conduct the festival once again this year.
The Bay Schools Festival is currently being held at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate School Hall. It is held in the third term often in the last week of August. Performance nights are always on Tuesday and Wednesday. (See dates below!)
Mrs. Michelle Sadgrove auditions children for this choir early in Term One every year. Due to the limited space at our performance venue, (Blockhouse Bay Intermediate School Hall) only 30 children can be chosen for this choir. Year 5 & 6 children are given priority when auditioning for this choir so they can have the opportunity to be part of a massed choir before leaving Arahoe School.
