One of Arahoe's core strengths as a school is the provision of programs that support children whose learning needs may differ from others in their class, with targeted teaching. The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) support program is run by a fully trained teacher and provides both migrant and New Zealand born children, who speak another language at home, the opportunity to develop and refine their English skills. We currently have children in the program from over 15 different countries, speaking over 25 different languages.

Children involved in this program (English Language Learners) receive a combination of support in class and out of class, aimed specifically at developing and improving their Reading, Writing and Oral English language skills. Out of class, the ESOL program utilises photographs, role play, language experiences outside, and cooking as a means to develop vocabulary and practice their use of English Language in its correct form.
